The mission of the Outreach Committee is to help develop, coordinate and promote opportunities for Grace-St. Luke’s parishioners to continue the work of Christ through actively serving the world in God’s name. This means using every means available to help parishioners understand the Gospel imperative to feed the hungry, clothe and shelter the needy, care for the sick, and visit the imprisoned, as well as the Christian call to be an instrument of healing in our broken world (Matthew 25:35) – in other words, to know Christ and to make Christ known.

Camp Coast Care is a Christian community of faith that provides volunteer support for the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. Camp Coast Care’s mission is the reconstruction of homes on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Construction and building supervisors needed to train and help volunteer teams.
An obvious question that is asked, “What will we be doing”. While there you might gut a damaged home, work in the kitchen, dig a foundation, paint, clean the dorm, frame, install sheet-rock, remove debris from a home, or finish out a home. All experienced construction workers and crews lead by construction workers will have the opportunity to do construction work. Everyone that has done some basic home maintenance can help and learn new skills. Many couples volunteer together with husband doing carpentry work and wife working at Camp with cooking and tools organization.

Long Beach, MS is an easy six hour drive south of Memphis. Volunteers stay in the new Camp Volunteer Building with dorm (bunk beds), nice new bath facilities, dining room and huge kitchen room. Three great meals per day provided.

Organization's mission:
We are an ecumenical group of West Tennessee Christians in partnership with St. Paul’s Church in Montrouis, Haiti. This is an ecumenical Millennium Development Goal ministry which concentrates on sponsoring education scholarships for children in elementary school; establishing a water project to provide a ready source of clean water in Montrouis; rebuilding the local health clinic with immunization and nutrition programs; establishing a website and communication program for St. Paul’s and their related ministries; and renovating a conference center located on their campus.

We would welcome anyone interested in education, healthcare, construction, and fund raising as we will be continually raising money for scholarships, and our mission teams are planning a water project and several construction projects, including a dormitory facility for volunteers, refurbishment of St. Paul’s School and the local health clinic at Montrouis; and completion of an unfinished conference center. We would love a coordinator of children’s programs to help facilitate communication between the children of St. Paul’s School and any Memphis city schools.

We generally have monthly or bi-monthly committee meetings between mission trips which have occurred every other year since our inception in 2005. We’ve had several fundraising events for scholarships which occur in late summer or early fall. Mission trips are self-funded although our goal is to raise money for travel scholarships as well.

The Samaritan Counseling Centers are a non-profit interfaith agency, which responds to the psychological, emotional, relational and spiritual needs of individuals, families, couples and groups in an environment of compassion and confidentiality.
The purpose guiding the Samaritan Counseling Centers of the Mid-South, Inc. is to provide Healing through Understanding. The Centers’ mission is to provide a faith-based ministry of affordable mental health care, counseling and education that is available to all individuals, families, and congregations of the Mid-South seeking such help. This ministry respects their values and supports wholeness of body, mind and spirit. For more than 25 years, thousands of people have come to the Centers to wrestle with and resolve personal and family problems.
Supported and utilized by the interfaith community, the agency provides mental health and crisis care services through counseling, education and enrichment services, to equip individuals, children, adolescents, families, and older adults to deal with life’s problems in ways that help them clarify issues, change ineffective behavior patterns, and lead healthier, more productive lives, regardless of ability to pay. The Centers also provide clergy consultation and training opportunities for clergy, plus also offering these educational sessions to congregational staff members and other area mental health care professionals when appropriate.
Mental Health America points out that, “Over two thirds of adults and over half of children with a diagnosable mental health condition do not receive the mental health treatment and services they need.” State and federal budget cuts over the past number of years have put an increased burden on mental health providers for services to the lower income needs population , plus significantly increasing costs in other community sectors like emergency rooms, police operations, homeless shelters, and correctional facilities, not to mention losses in economic productivity”.
All these factors increase the urgency of the need to expand the Samaritan Counseling Centers’ services in Memphis, especially to low-income persons, children, and families with children.
